Editize was developed in Java and designed as a drop-in replacement for the HTML <textarea> tag. Instead of plain text, it allows your users to edit richly formatted documents.
Editize is a purely client-side application. It runs as a Java applet and uses JavaScript to masquerade as a form field. To function, Editize requires the Sun Java Plug-in to be installed on the user's browser. On browsers that support it, this installation is performed automatically by Editize.
When the form is submitted, Editize fields are submitted as simple, standards-compliant HTML code, ready to be stored in a database or plain text file for immediate display on the site. Like <textarea>, Editize fields can also be passed an initial document to display when the page loads.
