My users are reporting problems with Java applets on other sites after they have installed the Java Plugin. What gives?
When you upgrade to the latest version of the Java Plugin, you may lose some functionality in older Java applets. This is a known issue in Internet Explorer for Windows.
This problem can be prevented in Internet Explorer for Windows. When the Java Plugin is installed, it offers to take over the responsibility of running Java applets on all websites - not just those that need the new Java Plugin. In most cases, the Java Plugin can handle these applets just fine, but some older applets do have problems (for example, some online games at Yahoo!).
To restore compatibility with these older applets, users should run the Java Plugin's configuration tool, available in the Windows Control Panel. Navigate to the "Browser" tab, and uncheck the box for Microsoft Internet Explorer.
This will force Internet Explorer to only load the Java Plugin for applets that specifically require it - such as Editize. Editize will continue to operate as normal.
